The radio range works fine. The problems are caused by the operator! It is a learning curve. I have a lot of information with me when I fly it. Also if you set up your own aircraft with it, be sure to include the douglas_dc3_ref for the ref. on the knee board for your aircraft. This allows you to see the directions of the legs of the range you are using. I have the maps close at hand and a reference on which way the tones are inbound and outbound. I found that in the training flight info. I also tried to include the double needle ADF meter which is on the panel of the DC-3 that is included with the RR range software. It is valuable on understanding the concept. It is a little work to get to understand it but it keeps your attention while flying. Makes it more interesting. There are some "rules: you will learn as you read but not bad. I like it very much. After I fly the July feature I think I will go back and fly it with the radio range. It follows the yellow route 7 (see the maps for this). You can contact me if you have any questions. I will try my best to help.

Hi Bob, Well, I guess I should have asked "What is radio range". Looks like it is add-on software, where do I get it? I usually don't fly the DC-3, just GA twins and down, so would it work with twins and single GA planes?

Radio Range is an add-on to FS2004. It is rr40.zip. Go to Avsim and/or FlightSim and do a search on radio range. You should find this file and others. The others will show what A/C have already been converted. You just have to make sure that the search find files are about Radio Range, some extra show up. Also in the file is information on how to add Radio Range 4.0 gages etc. to any aircraft. I did it to my Cessna T-50. I put them on the post on the left side of the 2D panel. I added the 2 needle ADF Gage, the radio section gage. a stop watch, and the strength meter. I got these from the DC-3RR supplied with the program. I used the NM panel. You also have to add the sound gage for it. It was a trial and error instillation. I now have panel studio to help this. I would first read the manual and then did the training flight in the DC-3. This gets you started. I think you can fly the DC-3 OK, it is easy and don't worry about landing etc. The software installs new ADF stations everywhere. You have to learn to identify them. I put the cursor over the ADF icon in fs navigator and if it says the source is from add-on scenery, it is the right one. If you do not have fs navigator, use the reference file from the DC-3 to find them by name. I use it too. By the way, the heading generated by fs navigator from ADf to ADF is not necessarily true. you have to see the inbounds and outbounds of the 4 legs of the ADFs for the true bearings.

I forgot to add that there are colored Airway maps included in the instructions. They will show the basic location of the ADFs.

Thanks for the info, Bob, Ill look into it. I can fly the DC-3 OK, I just usually don't. Maybe this will get me started on it. I was a rarioman on a R4D in the 50s while in the Navy.

I was a radio operator on a KC-97F for a while, then I changed MOS to firefighter which I did as a Vol. in civilian life. The KC-97F was obsoleted.
Bob PS: I am a ham radio operator because of that.
