Hi Allen,
It sounds like it might be time for that Christmas present upgrade as there is so much freeware and payware addons to enhance your experience. X-plane.org store is having a sale this weekend, looks like there are some good bargains. I personally don't like Radeon video cards, I think Nvidea cards run rings around Radeon, but that just my opinion, for each his own.
Okay, let's get your C-47,
First go to X-plane.org (not the Org store), just XP.org. Create an account there if you have not already done so, usual stuff, user name, password etc.
Next Google or whatever your search engine may be........aeroworx C-47 Spool down to Aeroworx Douglas C-47 Airplane Development Notice - X plane Org.
With the new screen now up spool down to Download XP11, that will take you back into X- plane.org Log into your created account on that screen.
The screen will then change to a new screen with a Download this File button. Press that and you download should commence.
Hope this helps.
Rob

Thanks, Rob, I'll give it a shot. Have you ever downloaded and installed any planes from FlightSim? I see there are XP-11 downloads for some of my favorite planes. Is the C-47 payware?

The C-47 is freeware but defiantly payware quality
Yes I have installed from flight sim but not in XP had a few for FSX and P3
Let me know how you get on with the C-47.

I'll probably wait until I get the XP-11 DVD installed before downloading any planes. Just curious, is there any advantage to downloading the C-47 through XPlane instead of just downloading it from aeroworx?

Not sure, what I gave you was my round-a-bout way of getting the aircraft.
If you have made your account I guess you could play around and see what happens.

Installed the X-Plane 11 DVD and made my first flight around Coeur d'Alene in the 172. Frame rate about 12-13, scenery is very sparce, not many buildings but, suprisingly, most of the roads show and the airplane flies very well - maybe better than in FSX. No jerky screens in turns, etc. The scenery is crisper and more detailed, even showing power lines, than FSX. X-Plane was loading 3 other planes in addition to mine, so I deleted them from the load file. That got me another 4 fps, so now I'm getting 16-17 in the 172 and 19 in the Stinson. I did notice that airports are a lot harder to see in X-Plane than in FSX, and there is a lot of new stuff to learn about. Anyway, I can fly it this way until I can save up for a new motherboard. I'm going to download a couple of X-Plane 11 planes from FlightSim and see how they work. If that works OK I'll try the C-47.

Allen,
Did you end up getting the C-47 and how are you progressing with XP11 ?

Hi Rob, Haven't got the C-47 yet. I have 3 planes I cownloaded from FlightSim. A Lockheed L-10, a Belanca AirCruiser and a Lockheed Vega. I have all 3 of them in FSX also. All 3 fly well, and have nice 2d panels. With sliders set to minimums I get 19-21 fps. Not great, but I can explore XP-11 and learn more about it. Still need to do the research to get the best motherboard and graphics card that will work in my desktop. It's interesting that in X-Plane, even with the sliders set to min, the terrain in the Merocco hop has more detail than in FSX. My interest is still in early to late GA aircraft, and I mostly like 2d panels. In my current setup in X-Plane the 3d panels eat up fps (and I haven't figured out how to modify them yet). I will probably get the C-47 in the near future, don't know how it will run on my current setup. Allen

I downloaded he Aeroworx C-47 tonight, did a take-off and short flight, no landing, just to get some idea of how it flies. Getting 19-20 fps, seems to fly OK. Still learning, need to read the .pdf to learn the controls. Will try a circuit at KCOE next. Did you bail on XP-11 because you didn't like the C-47 or...? Allen

Hi Allen,
Glad that you got the C-47, I haven't downloaded it yet for P3 v4 as I am currently learning to fly the PMDG DC-6.
When I had the C-47 in P3 v3 I added the Turbine Sound Studios C-47 sound,, it's pretty cheap and not a big download but but it makes the C-47 sound like a C-47, really worth the enhansement.
I am not sorry that I purchased and tried XP11 and it is a sim in my opinion with a lot of potential and also with much dowload freeware and if I wish to reinstall it it will be easy with the DVD set.
I did have trouble with the aircraft that I purchased and installed, as an example the C-47 did one good flight then every time I tried to fly it again it would just go round in circles on the ground and I am familiar with the tail wheel lock , differential engine power and braking, in the real world I worked on DC-3's, engine ran and taxied them, But I could not get this thing to work properly. I didn't go for P3 v4 just because of the above, I was just having so much trouble getting the aircraft to operate properly, even the default ones except the C172, that flew nicely, maybe just my lack of tweaking things on a computer.
P3 v4 runs very smoothly, probably being 64 bit, like XP11, plus I already had many payware aircraft, Orbx and Rex products that are compatible with V4, so I didn't have to repurchase anything as they were all compatible, just shouted myself the DC-6 as a Chistmas present.
I still have an interest in XP11 so please keep me posted on how you are progressing with it.
Cheers Rob

Hi Allen, Just to add to the above, after mastering the high end aircraft such as the PMDG B737-800 and now becoming familiar with the DC-6 I find it very hard to enjoy the lesser aircraft except MJ's C-47, this would have to be the best freeware aircraft ever produced to date. All the real world C-47's I was involved with never had an auto pilot and that is how I fly MJ C-47, hands on.
Flight sim will never be real world regardless of platform and I guess I am a bit of a purist after all my years with the airlines and it all boils down to what the individual prefers, XP11, P3 v4, FSX or FS9 and naturally what your budget can afford.
I think it is the old story, you get what you pay for, but regardless if you enjoy the sim that you have and the aircraft, scenery etc that you are using then that is the main thing.
Cheers Rob

BINGO! Started with 98 and now up to FSX which is all the old computer can handle. enjoy seeing all the great screen shots from the the newer sim programs, but for now this is what my budget all and I do enjoy all the aircraft I have and being able to modify the panels. Think I got some dandies ready for the next rally..

David,
For a computer dummy such as myself is it difficult to install a different gauge ?
I have Just Flights DC-8 series 10-40 which I like to fly to keep my hand in with flying the older airliners but the altimeter is next to impossible to read.
Cheers Rob

Hi Rob, On changing or adding a gauge, on a 2d panel is is easy in XP-11 and FSX. On a 3d panel I think you can do it in FSX but I haven't been able to do it in XP-11. Interested to see what David has to say.
