Leg 9 Trying to better the Varsity at Evans Head. Darn trees! Anything 2 engines can do, 4 can do better. Good rule of thumb: never bank 90 degrees until you are at least half a wingspan off the ground. Coffs Harbour for a touch-and-go Across the mountains again. Stick above MSA. Touch at Tamworth. I was early at Port Macquarie, so I gave them a look at what a Bev could do. Left the runway clear for those pushing their target times. Parked out of the way again. Unlike the Varsity, this crew can add some refreshments to lunch. Coffee or water for us though; we're flying later.

Final leg. The Bev could take runway 10. She's heavier than the Varsity, but well under MTOM, and more of a STOL aircraft. So, here we go. It's a nice evening. Approaching Cessnock The last daylight landing this GAAR. Touch-and-go Cessnock Bathurst was under low cloud. Luckily I had a bit of time in hand, as it was an NDB to circle. Touch-and-go Bathurst Boo !!!

Ready at Bourke for a very long Leg#7 While taxiing to the active Rwy 05.. .. I meet Ed in his good old Luscombe Model 8 .. to go bat together! Approaching the first waypoint: YBRW and turning northbound! Someone is flying a bit higher than me! A tricky approach to Rwy 12 at YGDA (Goodooga).. .. to carry out a successfully touch and go! Overhead YLRD (Lightning Ridge) - famous for its black opals! Finally ready for the next touch at YMGI .. checked! From afar greets my target.. Moree! .. and soon later - left downwind Rwy 01 Battling with crosswind on final! Back on earth! On the way to the apron - quite a bit of traffic here! .. what a warm welcome! .. and what a great party - with Jazz at its finest! Thank you Jazzthom!!!

A bit bleary-eyed.. but being of good cheer for Leg#8. A long stretch eastbound with strong headwind will forcing me to use full power to reach 84 knots groundspeed! That costs time and fuel - poor engine! Now is the time to say farewell and I'm on my way to Rwy 05 - at least no crosswind for take off! Approaching 05, turning into downrange.. .. and soon airborn. A nice flyover and "Au revoir!" Going up to 4500ft to make oneself comfortable.. What a variety of landscapes! Anything but that headwind - 12 knots direct to my nose! Some two hours later.. Glenlyon Dam, also known as Pike Creek Reservoir. A shangri-la for fishing!! Travelling abeam the City of Stanthorpe. The sub tropical climate was very suitable for growing cool climate fruits and vegetables. Grapes were first planted here in the 1860s.. Andrew's trick, and I knew it all along, there's more to come on my way. The McPherson Range, an extensive mountain range.. .. a spur of the Great Dividing Range, heading in an easterly direction. In closing, everything turned out for the best: the Pacific Ocean and the Gold Coast YBCG / Coolangatta and 5 minutes behind schedule.. As a reward for my effort.. .. a brilliant evening mood on my way to Bryon Bay! Going down to 1500 feet.. Finally in left downwind for Rwy 06 - quiet neighbourhood on the Multicom! Good night world! Concentration stage: rather high! I'm not very good in dusk landings.. .. at least on ground - in one piece! A handful minutes too late, so what! - But, cool to meet pal Jazzthom and his big machine! Lets have some BIG PRAWNS!! I like it with garlic bread!!
