The leg into Murray Island was fun. I came in with close to 9,000 lbs of freight for the Island and still enough fuel for the next hop. Anothe few pounds on board and I would have been swimming on the other side of the island. Flew leg three with rain and in the dark. Andrew that was a real nice combo to throw at us at the same time as we have to figure out our actual trip times without your usual excellent help in telling us when we should be touching down at the end of our legs. The Lancaster is mushy in flight but real fun to fly this way. On to leg 4 tonight.

Have just flown leg 5. Don't recall any previous GAAR leg being such a brute - glad we had no pax as it would have cost a small fortune in barleysugar. Our flight angineer is going to be up late tonight as the cylinder heads got rather hotter than they ought to! ;D

Indeed John, but the tim tams and vegemite must get through. As my collective time in the Wayfarer was slower than for the Twin Pin and the routes were circuitous, I'm in no hurry to see the score.
At least I learnt that the "single" mixture setting on the Wayfarer has to be manipulated with the keyboard to allow it over 9,000' with MTOW loading - eventually.

Well completed Leg 4 with a cargo load out of 24000 pounds for the remote locals. I definitely appended my call to HEAVY. Dropped 6000 at Saidor. Andrew has out done himself for this rally with several touch and go's into very small runways. Putting a very heavy 4 engine Lancaster down on a grass strip and back out without pruning trees has been GREAT. Leg 5 is now complete and another 6000 pounds for another remote community. Big aicraft means big loads. Johnl, I have to agree with you on leg 5, what a brute but we have to admit what a blast.

Hallo from Austria ! I´m for the first time flying in Australia, and untill now I`m very pleased flying there. There is one thing I`m wondering, that most of the destination airports are in "deep holes", therefore aproaches are very steep, wich makes it more tricky to land. brgds thomas

Finally got to complete leg 7 tonight. With all the rain on this leg I really think I passed Noah on the way in for final approach. I am hoping to complete all the legs but we are on Grandchild watch. Number 5 is due and will probably arrive early meaning two day road trip to Edmonton. Andrew this has been a great challange, even to the point I didn't mind doing some tree pruning on a few of those touch, scream, and goes.
