One of the aircraft I will be flying in the GAAR 2013. A Spartan 7W Executive from the 1930's and early 40's. Powered by a Pratt and Whitney 400HP Wasp SB. My other aircraft is a Douglas DC3 (which you are probably all familiar with). Attachments:

Hello everybody! Unfortunately, I can't participate in the GAAR this year... It's for the first time since Bluegrass started the event... what is it...8 years ago? Or is it 9? ..........Anyway, I wish all of you pilots all the best in this years' GAAR! Keep it safe and have fun ;D Cheers, Paul Paul, Sorry to hear you can't join us for what is actually the 12th running of the GAAR. Who would have guessed we would still be doing this after 12 years! Your excellent screenshots will be missed this year, but hopefully we will see you next year. Cheers Andrew

Hey, my name is Little Red Riding Hood. Look at my profile name; it clearly agrees! This is my 2nd attempt at the GAAR; I was forced to cancel my first one due to other conflicts. My aircraft is the de Havilland DH.82 Tiger Moth, which I named "Joan." After some testing, fixing, and refitting Joan with a radio and NAV equipment, I flew from her testing grounds in Fairbanks to my hometown in Anchorage. Here she is with the mighty Alaska Range in the background. Joan would be seperately shipped to Australia. My mother and her boyfriend were touring Belize for a retirement home, so I flew them there using modern Alaska and American aircraft. Then I swiched to my classic 1950s FS Universe and flew to Kununurra with American and Qantas propliners, did my test flight, then returned to Sydney via a TAA DC-6. I then hopped from the Intl Airport to Bankstown. Final to Bankstown with crosswind and all She was than given a small repaint. Look closely and you'll see the name "Joan" on the fuselage. It can be hard to read, but it's there.

Open cockpit in Alaska at this time of year? - I salute you!
We still see the odd Tiger Moth around here - usually heading to or from Sandown for lunch. We had the Tiger Club turn up en masse for a local airshow and it was debateable whether the planes were older than the pilots or vice-versa!

The first day of the GAAR 2013, and ready to go! Here some remembrances. Leaving Bankstone via Rwy11R, climbing to 2500ft AMSL only and heading to the Parramatta River.. .. then Sydney Harbour due to sightseeing, the "Coathanger", the Circular Quay and of course the world-famous "Opera-House". And also: There is chance to meet some IFR-Traffic in the immediate vicinity from Kingsford-Smith Airport . Heading 195° and with full permission from Sydney ATC, I'm allowed to cross the ILS-IFR approach sector Rwy 34 on 4500 ft. You see the incoming Aircraft on my right? Yep, my Luscombe is above Airliner-Traffic. A rarely moment! On the downwind leg Rwy 36 YMRY .. and final. Reasonable wind today. "When the steaks are burning fiercely, when the smoke gets in your eyes When the snacks all taste like fried toothpaste and your mouth is full of flies It's a national institution, it's Australian through and through So come on mate and grab your plate, let's have a barbeque!" See you on Leg two! Cheers Urs

Well, she may have been in a field for a few years, but with a bit of elbow grease and Autoglym she's come up nice. Shakedown flight was "interesting", but I think we'll get round.

Hi Jazzthom.
RAF Germany was one of the commands of the RAF, like Bomber Command or Fighter Command. It arose after WW2, and carried on I think until the Wall came down. The springbok on the tail is the squadron badge of 60 Sqn. Used for transporting various VIPs.

"Digital Elevation Model for Leg#2" Flying high today.. Ready to go, but not without the local culinary delight "The Sydney Rock Oyster" on Ice.. Lets start the adventure! After taking off, wide right turn over the field and gaining altitude - going up to 6500ft AMSL/QNH (if my Continental 65HP Engine can make it..) The first part of the ranges, clouded over - hope not for downdrafts and other jokes! At least groundcontact.. Navigating to YPFT - Airfield and runway in sight! Approaching carefully.. .. with a pinpoint touch and go! We managed the second Range of the Snowys as well.. .. and trying go below the fog patches at YPFT. Entering CCT.. .. and established for a touch and go on active runway 06 at YCRG. finally homebound - keep going Luscombe! YMER - here we are, alive and well! A glass of icecold Chardonnay and some Oysters are waiting for me.. What more could one want?
